So you've had some time off after having a baby and have decided to get into the employment field, but you're not sure where to start? Whether you're a brand new mother or a stay at home mum of three, going back to work can be daunting. Returning to the work force is one thing, but finding a job that will accommodate to you and your new responsibilities is another. A freelancer is someone who is usually self-employed with their own ABN and can sell their services in a range of fields such as writing, design and editing. The best thing about freelancing is that you can work from home, meaning you can look after the kids, get house duties done and manage your time to suit your needs. It allows you to maintain a balance and only take on as much work as you feel comfortable with. There are many freelancing websites which allow you to make a decent profit in exchange for your work, so it’s the perfect way to get back in to the field all while making sure your baby has been fed and changed!
If you’re not ready to take on full time work straight away, try looking at part time or casual jobs that can help you slowly shift back into the employment field. Jobs like administration positions, tutoring or even babysitting are a good way to slowly start earning some extra income while still being able to look after your child until you’re comfortable to go full time.
Getting into hotel, gaming or hospitality work allows you to be flexible in your shifts with day or night shifts, and also lets you to work your way up in the industry. Sometimes all it takes is getting in to the company, and then you can gradually get from hospitality worker to a member in hotel management or an events coordinator. You can build your skills in events, tourism or hospitality by studying online with one of our online courses.

It’s normal for women to go back to their previous jobs after they’ve taken on the role of a stay at home mum, so don’t feel any shame in reaching out and asking if they have any work available!Returning to a job doesn’t have to be intimidating.
