If you’ve ever considered cabin crew courses to help you get the skills you need to enjoy a career as a cabin crew flight attendant, you’ve probably wondered whether it was suitable for you. Travel may have been limited recently because of Covid-19, but it’s only a matter of time before international flights and the travel industry get back to where it was prior to the pandemic.

Careers in flight attendant positions are sought-after, and for a good reason, as you get to travel and see more of the world than most of us get to. In this blog, we look at what the job entails and what sort of person is ideally suited to the role.

Early Mornings & Long Hours Are the Norm

One of the first things you find out on your flight attendant course is that you’ll be required to work long hours. 4 am starts and midnight finishes are nothing new to those in the profession, and so it’s a job that calls for more than a little stamina.

Patience is also a characteristic you’ll have to master as your personal plans can often be interfered with when flights are cancelled, and your services are needed at short notice. It really does come with the territory.

Patience, Understanding & Decision-Making Skills

As part of the cabin crew, you’re expected to meet the needs of the passengers, whatever they are, so you’ll need to have great customer skills, patience and more than a bit of understanding. You may also be required to resolve disputes between passengers, so mediation and a calm manner under pressure are also valuable characteristics to have.

You’ll obviously learn ways to diffuse situations like this on your cabin crew training course, but you have to be the kind of person who doesn’t get flustered to do well. You’ll also need to be someone who is able to make quick, well-informed decisions in emergency situations.

How Good Is the Pay for a Flight Attendant Role?

After fully qualifying for the position after your aviation flight attendant course, you open yourself up to a job that comes with quite an excellent salary. You can expect to take home an annual wage upwards of $60k, and the job comes with lots of associated perks like great health plans and paid hotel stays.

What’s more, you get discounted travel for when you yourself go on holiday, which all adds to the benefits. Again, air travel may be restricted, for the time being, meaning that now might be the ideal time to get the training you need to get there.

Is a Flight Attendant Course Suitable? You Decide

Travelling around the world for a living is exciting, but it does require you to spend lots of time away from home and get breaks when the job allows. If you’re as yet not sure about whether it’s a career path you’d like to take, studying a travel and tourism short course from OCA is a great way to help you make up your mind.
