Once you have completed this course you will be ready to put yourself to the test and get a job in the grooming industry, so you can gain work experience before you step out on your own. You may even need to be prepared to work on a volunteer basis to get experience.
Pet Grooming is a skill and you need to be trained to do it professionally. Not only so that you can be efficient and do the right thing for your clients, but also so that you don’t inadvertently cause injury to a pet that could result in you being seriously out of pocket, not to mention the “brand damage” it could do.
Dog groomers know that keeping a dog’s coat healthy is one of the most important parts of their job. To do this, groomers must be highly knowledgeable about coat types and breeds. Many different types of dogs will come into the grooming salon, so it is essential to have a strong understanding of dog groups, coat types, and how to properly groom each dog.
Grooming needs for pet and show dogs can be quite different; however, the one thing that does not change is that you need to know the breed’s structure, topcoat, undercoat, coat texture and movement. Understanding what your dog is bred for and what it is supposed to look like is the key to any good groom, so the Breed Standard is a good place to start building this knowledge.
You will learn all about these topics during this course and much more!
The animal health industry is a rapidly growing profession. According to the Government's JobOutlook website there are likely to be around 12,000 job openings over the next 5 years (that's about 2,400 a year). Unemployment in this sector is below average with around half of all workers in a part-time role. meaning a career lends itself well to those that need flexibility.
Working in animal health care is extremely practical and hands-on. It's suited to people that are passionate about animals, who enjoy helping or providing a service, but who are also analytical and can search for facts and follow procedures.
